Why do we worship? Because of Jesus!

We are sinners who have been rescued from sin by Jesus Christ. (Romans 3:23-24). Though we have different backgrounds, ethnicities, opinions, and personalities, we find commonality in the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

For millennia, Christians have gathered on Sundays (also known as “The Lord’s Day”) to worship the one true God revealed in the the Bible and celebrate this good news. We gather to:

  • Read the Word, through Public Reading of Scripture (1 Timothy 4:13)

  • Sing the Word, through Congregational Singing (Ephesians 5:19-20)

  • Pray the Word, through Corporate Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13)

  • Preach the Word, through Biblical Exposition (2 Timothy 4:1-2)

  • See the Word, through Baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Romans 6:1-4, 1 Corinthians 10:16-17)

By gathering on the Lord’s Day, we express our unity around the gospel message, enjoy fellowship with one another, and are equipped for worshipful obedience in all of life.

What Should I Expect?

What Should I Wear?

We have a diversity of people who attend our services and are thankful for a congregation with a variety of dress. You'll find anything from very casual jeans and t-shirts to polos and slacks to suits. We encourage you to come as you are

Service Format

Our service is intentional, in that it follows a deliberate order of worship (or liturgy), but it’s not formal in style. We sing several songs, offer corporate prayers to God, hear Scripture read and preached, and worship through giving. We close each worship gathering with a word of commission (or benediction). After service, it's normal to find folks talking over the sermon and events of the past week in a time of rich fellowship.

Parking

When you pull in, you will see signs guiding you to the main parking area. Thankfully, there is plenty of parking available at Gibson Mill! For family and handicap drop off, there is a convenient lane right in front of the doors to our meeting space!

Sermons

Preaching at Risen Church is expositional, meaning that it seeks to systematically work through passages of Scripture, declaring the point of a particular Biblical passage, with practical application rooted in the redemptive story of Scripture. Our sermon series will regularly alternate between the Old and New Testaments. All preaching is guided and motivated by the Gospel, the Bible’s central message of God saving sinners through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Children

We are thankful to have a congregation with children! Our long term aim is to help parents train their children to worship as part of the church. For ages 2-4, we offer Kids’ Ministry which releases half way through service and releases during the sermon. As we grow, we anticipate expanding our Risen Kids ministry to include a nursery and younger elementary. Some parents choose for their children to remain in the service the entire time, and we welcome their presence.

Music

We sing lyrically rich songs, blending both contemporary worship and historic hymns, with a strong theological foundation. Those of us who are comfortable with music from one particular era have discovered that we come to enjoy other songs we had not previously encountered. We strongly prefer congregational singing, which emphasizes the gathered body enthusiastically singing praise to God with one voice. We plan to grow our band as our church grows, yet we are perfectly content to sing with the accompaniment of a single instrument!
